Orlando
Looking to Orlando for your school vacation destination? You’re not alone. Families flock to Orlando for winter vacations to escape the cold and relax under the palms. Of course, there are numerous things to do on vacation in Orlando, from the nation’s biggest theme parks to world-class museums. However, if you’re looking for something out-of-the-box, our top suggestions are WonderWorks or Boggy Creek Airboat Tours! Both of these attractions are adventurous, unique, and fun for family members of all ages. Billed as an “amusement park for the mind,” WonderWorks Orlando is literally upside down. Inside, you’ll get blown away by 71-mile-per-hour earthquake winds, lie on a bed of 3,500 nails, and design and ride your own rollercoaster. For an outdoor adventure take a Boggy Creek Airboat ride through the natural wilderness of the Central Florida Everglades. As you make your way through the tall grasses of the wetlands, you’ll spot alligators, turtles, fascinating birds, and more!
New York City
A family vacation to NYC offers a whole different experience, and while you may not escape the cold, you’ll certainly escape the winter doldrums! Our favorite things to do on vacation in New York are vast and varied! If you’ve never been to the Big Apple, you’ll want to hit the most quintessential landmarks, like the Empire State Building and Rockefeller Center. If you’ve been to the city before, you might want to treat the kids with the Harry Potter Exhibition at Discovery Times Square. Open through April 7th only, this magical exhibit brings the wizarding world to life with over 200 authentically crafted costumes and props from the film series. And while you’re in Times Square, take a look around! Stop by Madame Tussauds Museum to catch all your favorite celebrities in wax form or head to Broadway for an unforgettable performance in the theater capital of the nation (and perhaps even the world).
San Diego
Sunny San Diego has just about everything you could dream of when it comes to family fun and relaxation. Sandy beaches, near perfect weather, and premier attractions make San Diego a vacation fantasyland. One of the greatest things about discovering things to do on vacation in San Diego is that many of the popular attractions are grouped together in the beautiful Balboa Park. Here you’ll find museums, performing arts centers, gardens, restaurants, and of course, the beloved San Diego Zoo. The San Diego Zoo is a world famous conservation organization, home to many rare, exotic, and endangered animals. As a visitor, you’ll have the chance to get up close to giant pandas, zebras, kangaroos, anacondas, alligators, and much more. For the full experience, head over to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park where you’ll hit the trails for a trip through the savannah and an authentic taste of an African safari.
